These patterns of hooks have been responsible for some truly mammoth catches in recent years, as well as quite a few British records. The Manta 540 pattern is a relatively fine wire hook designed for giving the ultimate in bait presentation. They’re perfect for fishing baits like ragworm and lugworm, and for when using live sandeels or launce.

Its big brother, the Manta Extra 545, follows exactly the same pattern but is manufactured from a slightly heavier gauge wire to give added strength when doing battle with big fish. They come into their own when an angler wants to use a small hook to target big fish, like tope, rays and cod. The thicker wire ensures that these hooks will not bend out – no matter how much pressure you put them under. For those who like to use Pennel rigs, there is a dedicated Pennel pattern in the form of the 543 Pennel Manta Extra, which has a bent eye to give perfect bait presentation.

Made in Japan from superior quality high carbon steel with surgically sharp points and a special wide gape, these hooks are the number one choice of many dedicated anglers. The BFM lads love them and rarely use anything else! Mantas available from size 6 to 5/0, Manta Extras from size 2/0 to 8/0, Pennel Manta Extra in sizes 2/0, 4/0, 6/0 and 8/0.
